Bangladesh Government planned to build a Bridge over its largest and world’s strongest tidal river, Padma River (which is known as The Ganges River inside India). The bridge is 2 levels. Upper level is for Motor Vehicles and the lower level is for Railway. The bridge is 6.15 Km over water and 14 Km over land long.

The World Bank approved a Construction Loan and later canceled before the loan was even disbursed blaming that there might be conspiracies of corruption and filed a Corruption Case at the Canadian Court. After more than 2 years of hearing the Canadian Court did not find any corruptions and dismissed the case.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh decided to build the Bridge with the nation’s own resources without any foreign fin assistance. Finally the Longest Bridge in Bangladesh and one of the longest in the world has been successfully built using the most modern highest technology with super quality materials and equipment at a cost of about 4 Billion US Dollars in about 8 years.
Padma River naturally divided Bangladesh into 2 regions and now the bridge has connected the 45 million people of 18 districts with its capital and other parts of the country. The bridge will help increase the national GDP by 2.5% annually and the investment of about $4 billions will be recovered through Toll collection in 20 years.
This Bridge is the symbol of the national pride, self-confidence, capacities, thwarting national and international conspiracies as well as the fearless courage of the bold leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who is the daughter of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
